Bollywood star honoured with Tussauds waxwork

LONDON- Indian superstar actor Shah Rukh Khan posed for photographers with his life-like double on Tuesday at the unveiling of his effigy at London's Madame Tussauds waxworks.

The 41-year-old heartthrob dedicated the model to his mother, who always believed her son would be honoured in the waxwork hall of fame.

"Like all mums, my mum felt that I would be in Madame Tussauds one day," Khan told Reuters in an interview at the venue.

"She thought I was very good-looking, and she thought that it was enough criteria to get to be here. But I wish she was alive, for her it would have been very important.

"I never visited Madame Tussauds, because somewhere deep inside my heart I felt I would come here when my wax work was here. So it is a cherished dream for my mum and for me and it has been fulfilled."

The actor, believed to be Bollywood's highest-paid performer with a huge Indian fan base, joins screen stars like Hollywood 'A'-listers Tom Cruise and Angelina Jolie at Madame Tussauds, but he was unsure if he would be working with them for real.
"It is not my wish to go to Hollywood, it has to be the wish of Hollywood to decide," he said, when asked if it was his ambition to break into the U.S. film market. Few Asian stars have managed to appeal to audiences in both regions.

"They (Hollywood) are bigger than us, they are the bosses," added Khan. "So unless they want to employ us, we are nobody to be sending our resume there and hoping we get a job. But I am very, very happy doing what I do."

Khan was the third Bollywood star to appear at Madame Tussauds, where Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan also figure.

Madame Tussauds witnessed a gala event to welcome Shah Rukh Khan, as his statue found abode in the prestigious Madame Tussauds wax museum. The long haul came to an end on 3rd April 2007, when his statue was unveiled before an excited audience.

Shah Rukh flew down to the London museum with wife Gauri Khan. The proud duo posed next to his wax statue, which looked like the exact replica of Khan, thanks to the precise measurements of his physical features taken earlier this year. Shah Rukh experienced a grand reception from the management.

As a part of the promotions, Madame Tussauds designed a typical Bollywood-style poster saying “Shah Rukh Khan stars in Madame Tussauds”. The visitors had a chance to get their personalized copy of the Bollywood poster, after being photographed with the actor. Whether they would have been lucky enough to pose with SRK in person instead of his wax statue is uncertain! A 50-minute biopic showcasing Khan’s journey to stardom was screened after the statue was uncovered. All in awe of Khan, the museum’s library also stocked his pictorial biography Still Reading Khan.

SRK’s wax statue stands tall in the museum now. It is hard to distinguish the real Khan from his imitation. The similarity between the two is simply outstanding!

The wedding of actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai may not be held in Rajasthan's Jodhpur city due to shortage of hotel rooms, and the new possible venues could be Jaipur or Gwalior, informed sources said. The sources said Jodhpur was found unsuitable since March is the peak tourism season in the desert state. The Bachchans had earlier planned to host the marriage at the grand Umaid Bhavan Palace here. According to sources in Umaid Bhavan Palace, Bollywood's first family has decided to shift the venue to Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh or Jaipur. The marriage is expected to take place March 19. "They want to hold the wedding ceremonies in a heritage property. So they are now looking for a city that can provide them with the required setting. Gwalior and Jaipur seem to be the frontrunners," a hotel source told IANS. Travel industry experts, however, say that finding the required numbers of rooms in Jaipur in March would also be very difficult because of tourist rush. Even foreign tourists are desperate for rooms in Rajasthan now. "It would not be easy for anyone to get rooms in March. We are being forced to change itineraries for our foreign clients this month due to shortage of rooms," said Navendu Goswami, a tour operator. Amitabh Bachchan had earlier sent couple of his close friends to Jodhpur to finalise the hotel bookings in Umaid Bhavan as well as four other hotels. They wanted to book these hotels for a period of three days from March 18. As directed by astrologers, the Bachchan family is keen that Abhishek and Aishwarya tie the knot as soon as possible. Umaid Bhavan, however, is currently all set to play host to the wedding parties of Liz Hurley and Arun Nayar. Hurley and Nayar married in England March 3 after which they will host celebrations in Mumbai and Jodhpur. The couple arrived in Mumbai Monday. The couple have booked the hotel from March 7-10.

Another milestone for Celina Jetli… these days she is pretty ecstatic as the Egpt. Tourism board has made her the brand ambassador of Egypt from India. Taking time from her hectic schedule, Celina made a trip down to Cairo to see the dynamic metropolis, which is also the largest city in the Middle East.

Celina along with her team made a visit to the Media Production City on the outskirts of the city. It's what Film City is to Mumbai.

"They have state of the art studios with best sets which can be used for shoots. I think they are very suitable for our Indian films as the facilities including a hotel close by make it a good option," says Celina. His Excellency, The Ambassador of the Ar@b Republic said, "We want people to know that Egypt is not just about the Pyramids. We are working strategically on the tourism industry in Egpt. For its growth, we are offering easy visas, lower ticket rates, various tour packages etc. We hope to double the number of Indian tourists to Egpt by 2009. We are spending half a million U.S. Dollars in the next six months to encourage traffic between India and Egypt."

Modelling Career

Deepika has had modelling appearances in print and television advertising campaigns for Liril soap, Close-Up toothpaste and Limca, receiving many prestigious modelling offers, including brand ambassadorship of the Jewels of India, an annual jewellery exhibition. She hit the international scene when Maybelline made her their new international cover face. At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, for Indian models and designers, she was awarded the title of Model of the Year. On screen appearances

Like many successful models before her Deepika is turning to acting in Bollywood. She started by starring in the music video for "Naam Hai Tera," a song from the pop album Aap Ka Suroor, an independent album by popular Bollywood singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya. Deepika recently made her cinematic debut in a Kannada film, Aishwarya, directed by Indrajit Lankesh. [1]. Her co-stars in the movie is top Kannada hero Upendra. Jodhaa Akbar Release Date Confirmed As 25th January, 2008 Ashutosh Gowariker and UTV have finally (stress on finally) have decided on a release date for JODHAA AKBAR. Expect the epic movie to hit the theaters on 25th January, 2008. “The change of release date is due to the fact that JODHAA AKBAR has an extremely demanding post-production schedule,” the statement adds. Jodhaa-Akbar is garnering a lot of critical acclaim at the Cannes Film festival, which doesn’t surprise me ,considering it’s directed by the brilliant Ashutosh Gowariker. In fact Ashutosh Gowariker also made it to Variety’s list of the 60 most important people to watch out at Cannes ’07.

The film has been produced UTV and Ashutosh Gowariker Productions and they were overwhelmed by the response generated by the 2-minute promo showcases at Cannes. Says Sunita Gowariker, “The reactions were amazing. Buyers for Germany, France and South Africa were very excited. Is Kangana the next Preity ?

Actors lead a hectic life and Kangana Ranauat is no exception. Just recently, the young lady bought herself a double bedroom flat in Bandra and to be part of happiness, her parents came down all the way from Manali to Mumbai. But their daughter didn’t have time to spend with them. “She was busy shooting and travelling. Kangana was in Istanbul shooting for Roshan and then in Malaysia,” says a source close to the actress. The result was, her parents had to leave without getting to spend much time with her. “She had no time at all to be with them. So now Kangana after completing her schedule, has taken 15 days break to be with her parents in Manali. She will return back to the city after spending quality time with them,” the source reveals.

Kangana’s weather woesKangana Ranaut’s joy of shooting songs for Samir Karnik’s ‘Roshan’ in home state Himachal Pradesh was short-lived after capricious weather played spoil sport. The unit had to return without canning the scenes and will now head for Mauritius.
“We had gone to Manali to shoot songs for Samir’s ‘Roshan’. We chose an untouched location far away in the hills. How were we to know that we’d have to return without shooting the songs?” asks Kangana.
Hailing from the Himachal, Kangana actually was pretty ecstatic at the locations chosen. “But our joy was soon gone when it began to rain. Bobby (Deol) and I were stuck in a tent in the middle of nowhere for almost a week,” Kangana said. “We’d rush out when the rain stopped. But as soon the camera was set up and we got into position we’d have to rush back into the tent,” she added.
Eventually, the unit had to comply with the meteorological moodiness. “The direc tor turned the song into a rain-oriented number. But guess what happened? The torrential rains then decided to turn into a drizzle. The rushes looked like scratches on the camera lenses. Now we’ll be shooting in Mauritius next month. Let’s hope the rain gods will be kinder there,” she complaints.

She’s already acknowledged as a powerhouse actress where emoting is concerned, but did you know that Kangna Ranaut also excels in designing clothes - for herself, we mean. Yes, the actress designs almost 90 per cent of her clothes, be it on screen or off it, and is already setting trends. And of course, having such a great body, half her work is already done for her. We don’t know if the other designers are feeling left out though. But one thing is for sure, Kangna’s supermodel body, talent and star presence is a combination that is hard to resist. No wonder, director Sameer Karnik has recently signed her for his next film opposite Bobby Deol. Sure, Kangna is fast becoming any filmmaker’s delight.

Kangana Ranaut claims to be undergoing a lifestyle change. She’s spending time meditating and doing yoga. She says, “I believe in Karamyoga. The idea is not to get Moksha, but to awaken my subconscious mind. I have given up salt, alc0hol, physic@l relationships and even my friend circle. I will get married and have kids at the right time. I wear only white clothes these days.”
The actor insists that she is not exactly a yogi. She says, “Right now I am completely into my work, meditation and pranayam and classical singing. It gives me tremendous joy. I have been into meditation and yoga since I was 13, but that was a restless age. Today at 20, I feel more responsible. But I am not some kind of yogi. If you see me at public events or on the sets, you will hardly know what I am going through in my personal life.”
Kangana has her reasons for choosing this path. She says, “Life here is so stressful, I don’t want to lose my innocence, which I possessed when I came to Mumbai. People might sneer that I’m trying to become a saint at this age but one has to preserve oneself in this world.”

“It was like one of those delayed reactions. Only now I realise how close I was to death,” Kangana trembles at the memory. On Monday morning Kangana and a host of Bollywood’s dignitaries including Shiamak Davar and his dance troupe were aboard a flight bringing them back from an Bollywood award event held in Yorkshire. Shudders Kangana, “The flight back to Mumbai was via Delhi. We landed in Delhi in the morning. Immediately after take-off from Mumbai the aircraft started to act funny, and it was brought back to Delhi. We were told to disembark. But nobody was in the mood. Look, we had all been out of the country at a hectic event, performing, giving and receiving awards, sightseeing, dancing. Everyone just wanted to get home. I had my sister Rangoli waiting for me. I badly wanted to see her.” After all the passengers were forced to disembark some of the Bollywood passengers objected strongly. Says Kangana, “After four hours of delay we were finally put back on the same aircraft and brought to Mumbai. The funniest thing was even when I was on my way to Yorkshire our flight got delayed because of a snag. I wonder if I carry snags with me when I fly,” she jokes. Kangana had a ball in Yorkshire. She’s back to a truck load of rumours. “I’m supposed to have badmouthed Aamir Khan and I’m supposed to be seeing an Akshay from the industry. Will someone tell me if it’s Akshaye Khanna or Akshay Kumar? I find both very h0t.”

The film is a tale of newly married couple’s awkwardness in their first month after wedding.

After Kareena Kapoor, now Mallika Sherawat is doing a Helen number. Mallika will be seen gyrating to the tunes of Mehbooba Mehbooba, not in Ramu's Sholay but in Himesh Reshammiya's debut film.

For those who are unaware, Himesh had composed the 'Mehbooba-A Tribute To Panchamda', for Ramgopal Varma's version of SHOLAY, but just like the frequently changing cast of Ramu's movie, Himesh, who was to score the music, was dropped and Ramu got the 'Mehbooba' song recorded in the voice of Sukhwinder and Sunidhi.

Coming back to the Himesh-Mallika video, while Himesh has done quite a decent job (with a mike in his hand), it is Mallika, who really sizzles and makes the promotional number a real scorcher, justifying her reported 1.5 crore price.

The Mehbooba song, from Sholay, which is being used by Himesh Reshammiya for his film Aap Ka Suroor, just seems to getting bigger every day. We already know that producer Vijay Taneja has bought the rights of the song. The producer is leaving no stone unturned in his effort to recreate the magic of Mehbooba.

Actress Mallika Sherawat will be looking to better the Helen act in the song. Chalking out her moves for this will be ace choreographer Saroj Khan. Mickey Contractor will do her make-up and stylists Dilshad and Ashley will be working on her look. As Himesh has gone on record, saying that the song is their tribute to the musical legend R.D.
